Counterattack Trump: Canadian ruling party releases clear map showing Canada-US border

Canada's governing Liberal Party has responded to US President-elect Donald Trump's earlier post of a "new map of America," which included a merged United States and Canada, with a map of its own on social media site X, RT reports.

The map, posted Wednesday evening local time, had clearly delineated and labeled borders for the US and Canada, along with a snarky caption addressing anyone who may have been confused by Trump's post, according to RT.

Canada's borders were highlighted in red with the caption "not US" and those of the US in a darker shade of grey with "US" written below, RT added.

The map was posted with the caption: "For those that might get confused."

Earlier Wednesday, Trump posted an image of a "new map of America" that showed the country encompassing Canada, with all lands north of the border colored the same as the US, and the label "UNITED STATES" spanning the entirety of the North American continent in all caps.

Shortly before that, Trump had posted an image that "merged" the US and Canadian borders, and filled in the new country's borders with the American flag. The image was captioned, "O Canada!"

Earlier Wednesday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau responded to the merger idea, saying that it was "absolutely not" going to happen.

"Canada will not be part of the US. There's absolutely no risk or no prospect of that whatsoever," Trudeau said on Twitter. "As the US's largest trading and security partners, our workers and families on both sides of the border are better off as neighbors and partners."

Trump later admitted in a Fox News interview that he "didn't have any power" to annex Canada. But the president-elect reiterated that Americans "have no obligation to financially support" their neighbor.
