Joe Biden's staff 'hid mental decline from day one of presidency' and cancelled meetings on his 'bad days'
Scrapping his 2024 reelection bid after a disastrous debate with Donald Trump in June, Biden is “shielded” from the public because of his mental limitations, a report claimed.
Staff shielded President Joe Biden from major policy discussions, shielded him from bad reports, limited who met with him, and told him simple things like leaving the stage after a speech, according to a Wall Street Journal investigation.
At 82, Biden has faced questions about his mental fitness after some stumbles — but staffers have repeatedly defended him.
Now, the president faces a lame duck phase in the White House after Democrat Kamala Harris lost to Trump in November.
“One Democrat official said: ‘In conversations that I’m having, they don’t even mention the president anymore. It’s kind of sad. It feels like Trump is president already,'” the New York Times reported.
Special Counsel Robert Hur, who investigated Biden over classified material, called him “an elderly man with poor memory” in his report about the classified material.
Biden was shielded from top aides on matters of serious national security, like the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan and its aftermath, according to the Journal.
A briefing on the Afghanistan withdrawal was postponed because the President had a “bad day.”
Hur’s report, released earlier this year, concluded that Joe Biden “wilfully” kept and passed along “Top Secret//SCI” information after he left the vice presidency.
He noted “significant limitations on Biden’s memory” and that he couldn’t recall when his son, Beau, died, which was part of his decision not to recommend criminal charges.
“I know what the hell I'm doing!' Biden said after the report was released. "My memory has not gotten worse. My memory is fine. Take a look at what I have been able to accomplish since I have been president."
But just before Thanksgiving, Biden mixed up leaders of Egypt and Mexico while discussing the Gaza War.
“I think as you know initially, President El-Sisi of Mexico … did not want to open up the gate to humanitarian material to get in. I talked to him. I convinced him to open the gate, and that has helped a lot,” Biden said.
Biden’s term ends at noon on January 20, when Trump is inaugurated.
